RAIN Works will soon offer live Zoom-based training sessions focused on practical radio communications, beginner-friendly education, and real-world field use.

These sessions will be designed for people who want to better understand their equipment, improve their communication capability.

Training sessions will be hosted live through Zoom and may include discussion, demonstrations, Q&A, and practical examples.

What to Expect

Each session will be a private, one-hour Zoom appointment built around your experience level, equipment, and communication goals. Before the session, you will provide information about the radios and accessories you use, your current license class, and the subjects you want to prioritize.

Training will focus on practical understanding rather than simply memorizing terminology. Whenever possible, concepts will be connected to real equipment, realistic operating situations, and common problems encountered in the field.

People completely new to radio communications
New Technician, General, or GMRS license holders
RAINWorks Manpack owners who want to better understand their equipment
Operators preparing a portable or emergency communications setup
Individuals who want help with antennas, programming, range, power, or field deployment
More experienced operators seeking focused guidance on a specific subject

No prior technical background is required. The session will be adjusted to match your current knowledge and comfort level.

Preparing for Your Session

For the best experience, participants should have their radio equipment, manuals, programming cables, antennas, batteries, and other relevant accessories available during the appointment. A computer or tablet with a stable internet connection, working microphone, and camera is recommended.

Participants are encouraged to submit their most important questions in advance. Because each appointment is limited to one hour, the session will concentrate on the topics that are most important to the participant rather than attempting to fully cover every listed subject.

After the Session

Participants should leave with a clearer understanding of their equipment, realistic expectations of its capabilities, and practical steps they can take to improve their communication setup. Relevant reference materials, links, or recommendations may also be provided after the session when appropriate.

Training is educational and does not replace FCC licensing requirements, manufacturer instructions, professional equipment repair, or emergency-services training. Participants remain responsible for operating legally, safely, and within the privileges of their applicable license.

Private one-hour sessions will be available by appointment. Registration will include a short questionnaire so each session can be tailored to the participant’s equipment, experience, and training priorities.
